Money Programs

Family Life By Design is a company dedicated to coaching and training families and youth in the important life skills
of Home & Family Management and Personal Financial Literacy.
OWNER/FOUNDER

Greetings! I am Stacey Sherman,  a wife, a mom, a Family Manager and Owner of Family
Life By Design.
After working in the fields of corporate training, sales and volunteer
management, I left the work force to stay at home with my young son. My decision was
partially prompted by our first long-distance family move.  Our relocation meant that I had
to leave behind my family-friendly, part-time position with a regional parenting publication.
I had been in the work force since the age of fifteen, so this was a major life shift for me.

In addition to my passion for home and family management, I have a sincere concern and interest
in personal financial literacy, especially for youth. Ever since I first volunteered to teach a
Junior
Achievement  (JA) 5th grade program during my college years, I've been hooked. Prior to my first
child, I served as an Educational Services Manager for the
JA of Greater Hampton Roads in in the
JA elementary school program in Wake County, NC.  I also currently serve on the Board of North
Carolina
Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy. Learning about and understanding
money and finances is such an important life skill, and unfortunately, many young people in
America graduate from high school with minimal course work or experience in how to manage
their own business called LIFE! This fact along with the startling statistics that many adults don't
really understand personal finance, motivated me to become certified as a
Creative Wealth®
Coach. I am now able to offer both youth and adults a FUN, innovative financial literacy program
that teaches
"Financial Wisdom for Life."
VISION

Our goal is to assist our clients/participants in understanding, recognizing and realizing ways that they can design*  their
nest so it is both "well-feathered" (managed)  and  "well-funded"
. Our definition of "well-feathered" means that the client
and/or the family feels that their home is happy, organized and running smoothly within the seven distinct departments of
Home and Family Management. Our definition of
"well-funded" means that the client and/or the family understands their
beliefs and attitudes about money,  the basic concepts of personal finance (daily money issues) and the importance of
saving money  as well as investing in the three pillars of  wealth building.

*n  1: a mental project or scheme in which means to an end are laid down   2 a:  deliberate purposeful planning. vb 1  a: to
conceive and plan out in the mind  b: to have as a purpose; intended
.
Searching for ways to connect with my new lifestyle, I began to seek out opportunities
to                                                     to use my skills both in and outside of the home. I joined a national mother’s support group
                                               (
Mothers & More) and founded two local chapters. It was at a regional conference for this
organization (circa 1997) that I first discovered Kathy Peel’s
Family Manager® book. I was
instantly won over by Kathy’s idea that basic business management principles and skills are the same skills that people all
over the country use daily in managing their families, homes and careers. After reading Kathy’s first book,
The Family
Manager
, I immediately started implementing the ideas into my family life. I then introduced the concepts to my Mothers &
More
chapter, which lead to the formation of a Family Manager sub-group within our group and, ultimately, to personally
meeting Kathy  by coordinating a local speaking engagement.  Shortly after that meeting ,  I learned that the Family Manager
Network would be starting a coaching program.
After "waiting in the wings" for almost two years for the formation of the
Certified Family Manager® Coach program, I became one of 130 Charter
Coaches when the program launched in August of 2006. I received my
certification shortly thereafter and became the first Family Manager® Coach in
North Carolina. By utilizing all the skills I've learned during my professional
life, 20 years of marriage, 2 children, 13 years of family management, and
countless hours of volunteer experience, I am able  to assist others in
creating the smooth-running, organized homes they envision. I help my clients
learn to prioritize tasks, find practical solutions to home and family
management issues, and build their family teams. I am honored to have been
chosen "Coach of the Month" for February 2008 by the
Family Manager®
network.
